Régine P.M. Steegers-Theunissen studied medicine at the Catholic University of Nijmegen and qualified as MD in 1986. She completed her PhD thesis “Vitamins, homocysteine metabolism and neural tube defects” in 1993 at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Radboud University Nijmegen and registered as Epidemiologist B in the same year. From 2009 she is the lead researcher of the Rotterdam Predict study. In 2011 she launched the multifunctional device independent personal (pre)pregnancy mHealth platform with CE-1 certification www.slimmerzwanger.nl to improve folic acid use and poor nutrition and lifestyle by personalised coaching on the smartphone of couples with a childwish.
