Food intake and healthy weight: shared responsibilities
Limited Capacity seats available

Obesity is a public health problem emerging in cities throughout the world. Biological factors which are causing obesity are depending on menu and appetite. These are not just individual choices. Consumers are depending on the supply of healthy food by food producers and shops. Could a supermarket chain take responsibility by educating its younger staff members to become lifestyle coaches for their peers?

Lifestyle design for a healthy menu
Limited Capacity seats available

Even though we have much knowledge of what is healthy food, this does not automatically result in a healthy lifestyle. Our behavior as consumers is more complex than a response to information. Our biological make up, personal preferences and the environment that we live in define what we eat. Could we design a healthy lifestyle and, if so what do we need do achieve this? Which are the drivers and barriers to do so?

Eat well young, grow up strong
Limited Capacity seats available

From the history of food and feeding the city one can learn about how to feed the city in the future and to make the city more healthy again. The last 20 years lifestyle has been changed markedly  leading to an increase of obesity already in young children and an increase of chronic diseases in the elderly. These chronic diseases can be prevented with a change in another style of living and food consumption. Food intake of children and adults nowadays is totally unbalanced and the consumption of vegetables and healthy food almost nothing compared to unhealthy sugar containing foods is almost. We can learn from the past and we have to look rapidly for changes in the future starting with the youngest children in the community. We have to change current lifestyle and creating more awareness and education is mandatory. The unique collaboration of Erasmus University Medical Center, the city of Rotterdam and the producers of vegetables enables us to make a real change in the health of the city.
