Is it possible to design a happy city? Contemporary cities are great in caring for many basic human needs collectively, such as safety, housing and health. More abstract aspects of life, however, have a more individual character; it remains your now responsibility to explore your talents, be creative and live a meaningful and happy life. The Innovationlab – The Happy City believes that happiness is more collectively pliable than we think and that the city plays a major role in this.

The InnovationLAB De Gelukkige Stad, initiated by urban designer Robbert Jan van der Veen (1981) and architecture student Stella Groenewoud, brings professors, Ph.D researchers and Honours Program students from different fields of study together to think about this and design all sorts of urban interventions. Four student projects focusing on Rotterdam will be presented along with a general and inspiring talk on the Happy City by Robbert Jan.
