Assisted-living and nursing homes have changed dramatically over the past several decades. These changes have been driven by government regulations and elderly people continue living at home as long as possible. Living independently and nursing homes thus seem worlds apart, but looks can be deceiving. Also explored is the possible transformation of these homes into houses for older people. The role of housing the elderly, providing care, and enabling the elderly to live independently for longer within their own community, placed in a new perspective.
