WORKSHOP, INTERVIEWS OF SPEAKERS AND AUDIENCE BY MODERATOR

BOLD Cities is a new inter-university center from Leiden University, TU Delft and Erasmus University Rotterdam that conducts big data research to help find solutions for urban problems. In this workshop the main researchers will discuss how big, open and linked data can help to answer urban issues regarding traffic flows, the quality of schools in various neighborhoods, how the neighborhood influences the health of its residents, the relevance of social media during large-scale cultural events, interaction between citizens, opportunities for establishing local businesses, energy consumption and air quality. Ethical dilemmas are a common theme running through these issues, especially with respect to the privacy of citizens, and the ownership of their data. Workshop attendants will be invited to share their knowledge, experience and views as well.
